Pari-Mutel Horse Racing Betting

Posted by admin

Horse racing has been around for a very, very long time. It has probably been around for as long as man has ridden horses. But the modern form of horse racing has been around for a much shorter time. This form of horse racing probably began in the 1800s. Professional bookmaking also began around that time in England.

In The Beginning

In the early days of horse racing, bookmaking was done entirely by individual bookmakers. There was absolutely no regulation. As can be predicted, this created a lot of problems. It was because this that M. Pierre Oller invented a machine that could conduct an auction pool based on bets that had been placed. This system was less prone to underhanded manipulations by dishonest bookies. As a result, it quickly gained much favor.

Around the time this machine was invented, the biggest races were being held in Paris. That is the reason the bettors often referred to these races as “mutuels.” The machine thus came to be known as the Pari-mutuel. Pari-mutel betting is still the most common form of betting in horse racing today. This type of betting can seem very arcane but it is actually very simple in concept.

Pari-Mutel Explained

If you want to bet on a particular race, you first have to pick the horse that you think will win the race. When the race is completed, the winners win a share of the total pot money. However, that pot is not divided in an equal manner. All the winners get back their initial bets and the remainders is pooled and divided up equally in units of 2.

For example, someone who bet $2 will get one unit while someone who bet $30 will get 15 units. In a pari-mutel betting system, odds are determined by the percentage of the overall pool that was bet on each particular horse. These odds are then used to create the payoffs in case a bettor’s horse wins the race.

Horse racing as a whole has benefited a lot from Oller’s invention. The pari-mutel betting system is a beautiful thing. It works so well because it is neutral with regards to the outcome of the race. Even the track has no interested in the winner of any particular race. When it comes to money, any bettor would be interested in a fair system that minimizes the risk of cheating. Oller came up with one and it is automated at that!

If you want to end up being profitable at horse racing, you would do well to study this form of betting to see how you can take advantage of it. Read up on the nuances and subtleties of this system so you can exploit certain situations with it. Only with proper knowledge can you come out ahead in any game. Do not be left behind by your fellow bettors. Learn strategies and seek advice. You will win more and in the end, you will enjoy the wonderful sport of horse racing more as well.

There are many horse racing betting guides out there that will teach you how to bet on the races and make a profit from it. I know from experience that 95% of these guides do not work. These guides will cost you money, so how do you know if you are getting the best guide for your money?

You need to know for sure that profits can be made with the guide. One way to do this is by checking to see if there is a guarantee attached to the guide. A money back guarantee will insure against risking your hard-earned money on a bad guide. Do not purchase a guide without this guarantee.

Once you receive your guide and have your guarantee, you can then test it without putting up any money. You test it on paper first. Or if you want, you can set aside a small amount to test it with. If it passes the test, you can move on to the next phase.

You can be pretty sure at this point that your guide provides you with good selection criteria. You will then have to determine if it includes a good staking plan for making profits. A guide does not necessarily have to have a good strike rate to make it profitable. It should also be crystal clear and not overly complicated.

There are not a whole lot of good guides out there, so when you find one, you can rest easy knowing that you have found the right horse racing betting guide without a whole lot of risk involved.

Playing Online Blackjack

Posted by admin

Online Blackjack is nothing more than the virtual, Web-based version of the popular casino card game in which the player’s skill can have as much effect on the outcome as the element of chance. Blackjack online offers the same enjoyment as it does in “real world” casinos, but can be played right from your computer – one can wager on and play blackjack online without ever having to leave home!

A Short History of the Game

Newcomers to online blackjack will be interested to know that the game has a fascinating history that goes back over three hundred years. The ancestor of blackjack games online is a card game known as vingt-et-une, or “Twenty-One,” played in France back at the time of King Louis IV around 1700. It didn’t catch on in the U.S. at first; in order to increase the game’s popularity, gambling saloons began offering a 10 to 1 payout if the gambler’s winning hand contained either the Jack of Clubs or the Jack of Spades; hence, the name “Black Jack.” The name for blackjack games online has stuck, although casinos have not offered the 10 to 1 payout for many decades.

Online Blackjack Variations

Whether you’re an advanced player or a novice, you’ll find that blackjack online offers all the standard variations of the game that you’ll find in a brick-and-mortar casino. Some of the variations offered by blackjack games online include “Spanish 21,” which offers payout bonuses for specific combinations, along with the challenge of no tens being used; “21st Century,” or “Vegas Style,” in which a “bust” does not necessarily constitute a loss; and “Double Exposure,” which allows a player to increase his wager even after the dealer has displayed his “up” card.

For the adventurous who are seeking an exotic online blackjack experience, there are even sites offering strip blackjack, featuring attractive “virtual” models for your enjoyment.

Online Blackjack Strategies

Since reputable virtual casinos operate the same way as their brick-and-mortar counterparts, many of the strategies used by successful blackjack players can also be used when you play blackjack online. These include shuffle tracking as well as the basic and “composition-dependent” strategies. Even “card counting” is not considered cheating, as long as no artificial counting devices are used (although most casinos have gone to multiple-deck games in order to counter this particular strategy).

Just For The Fun of It

It’s worth keeping in mind that while many online blackjack games are played for money, the game can be enjoyable all by itself. Many websites offer blackjack online that can be played for points simply as a pleasant diversion.

Whatever your online blackjack preferences, strategies and/or skill level, chances are good that you’ll find multiple opportunities to play blackjack online at a reputable online casino.

Wayne Hemrick is a longtime player of online blackjack and games online. He enjoys passing on his knowledge to fellow plaers around the world.

Some people hesitate to play casino craps because they do not know the correct amounts to bet when betting the odds. This is a valid concern because it is best to adhere to proper betting units that correspond exactly with the odds for each number. Making a mistake is not the end of the world, but the casino will round down the payment of a bet that does not fit the formula. Although betting the odds in craps may look difficult, it is really straightforward and easy to remember. And asking your dealer or floorperson about the correct bet is always acceptable.

For example, on a point of six or eight, you would want to bet your odds in $5 units because the bet wins exactly $6 for every $5 that is bet.

The units necessary to bet the odds on the other numbers are a little easier. You do not have to strictly adhere to the $5 units if you do not want to do so. The formula of 3 to 2, which is the odds for a five or nine, can work with many amounts. As long as your bet is divisible by two, then your payoff will never be rounded down.

Because the four and ten pay 2 to 1, any amount works with that formula.

The next important consideration when making an odds bet, is the betting range. The casino determines the monetary amounts that it accepts as bets. A standard craps game allows the player to take double odds. This means that an odds bet can be twice as large as the pass line bet. For example, a $10 pass line bet can be saddled with a $20 odds bet.

The double odds game is a typical venue, but in Las Vegas where casinos compete like Latin American soccer teams, other options exist. You will see signs and advertisements proclaiming 10x odds! Instead of being restricted to the lowly level of mere double odds, players at such a casino can place odds bets ten times the amount of their line bets. Variations on this theme, such as triple odds and 5x odds, also exist. A few casinos even boast games that allow tremendous 100x odds.

If your budget allows or you are simply wired with that gene that gives you a propensity for risk-taking behavior, go ahead and take all the odds that you can. Getting paid odds is a good feeling, and the pleasure increases proportionately with the size of your bet.

However, if you are more comfortable with double odds, you can play that way without shame no matter what range the casino offers. I have heard of the existence of single odds, but it sounds pretty lame. If you are getting single odds, I hope you are only in your basement playing dice with your buddies from work.

If you are interested in how to play craps the craps book Get Dicey: Play Craps and Have Fun written by Tracy Falbe under the pen name Tracy Michigan is an excellent reference. http://www.falbepublishing.com
