VPIP in online poker games stands for ‘Voluntarily Put Into Pot’. Expressed as a percentage, this term shows how many starting hands an individual player is willing to play from all positions at the table. This term started as a statistic in a widely used software tool known as ‘Poker Tracker’, and has now entered the main stream of strategy discussion – usually in the context of how loose or tight an individual opponent plays before the flop.

A poker player with a high VPIP is one who likes to be involved in a lot of pots. Conversely someone with a lower score is often waiting for the very best starting hands before parting with any chips. The actual numbers will depend on the game played and whether the table is 6-handed or 10-handed. As a rule of thumb a score of >35% can be considered ‘loose’ and <18% can be considered 'tight'.

When using this term to assess opponents it is important to consider that the information gained is limited to the amount of hands played before the flop. The ‘Voluntarily Put In Pot’ score does not actually tell you anything about how an opponent plays their starting hands. Consider the following example of 2 players:

- #1 – Limps into a lot of pots and calls small raises regardless of position at the table.

- #2 – Folds when there are other players in the pot already except with strong hands but will always raise when the hand is folded around to him in any of the last 3 positions.

It is possible that both of these players have an identical VPIP score, yet the way they play hands is completely different. Here the important factor is how aggressively the hands were handled. There are 2 more important statistics which describe this characteristic, ‘Pre Flop Aggression’ and ‘Aggression Factor’. Together with the VPIP score this information allows you to build a detailed picture of your opponents tendencies – and correctly adjusting to these is the key to winning while playing online poker.

In order to become successful at Sports Handicapping one must be willing to dedicate a lot of time attention to detail. Most casual bettors simply do not get this involved. They may invest in a sporting event they like based on their favorite teams or the local teams because information is easily accessible on those particular teams.

In contrast, professional sports handicappers look very deeply at the sporting event. They look at things from various angles trying to find an edge on a game. Important elements that are considered by professionals include:

* The strength of the team. This includes basic statistics related to how the team is performing at home, away, against particular teams, in certain weather conditions, etc. The handicapper is looking for the team’s strength in the sport that separates them from other teams.

* Box Scores. The professional handicapper studies how the team does during the flow of the game – not just the final score. The professional can then determine if the team routinely starts out slowly and then finishes with a bang, or if they can defend a lead, or if they start strong and then blow it.

* Trends. The professional handicapper will look for trends of the team. Such as, do they routinely under-perform or are they on a winning streak. Do they play better after a long period of rest? The pro will also look for the ‘why’ to these questions.

* Match ups and Stats. The handicapper will check stats related to how the teams have performed against each other in the past – or in similar situations.

- Coaches and personnel. The experience and effectiveness of the coaching and training will also be evaluated by the handicapper.

The reality is that the average sports investor does not have the time available to thoroughly evaluate every game and team before investing. That is why professional handicappers are necessary.

Professional handicappers eat, sleep, drink and breathe sports and sports odds. So you can put your trust in their choices, relax and enjoy the games knowing that you invested your money wisely. Remember, you are investing in a highly researched and analyzed sporting event.

Before settling on a professional handicapper you should research the services offered. You could also sign up for a short period of time in order to evaluate the handicapper’s performance.

This is not a get-rich-quick business. 60% is a great winning percentage, and 53% makes you money. If you enjoy sports investing, set funds aside for it and stick with a smart money management system. Like any business, honesty, integrity and hard work is the best formula for success. Dedication to knowing the items we listed above is what will set one handicapper (or scamdicapper) apart from another.

You need a comfort level that your handicapper is on top of the sports he covers as well as his ability to get the information to you in time for you to take ad antae of the angle providing the edge to win. Remember, 60% is a great winning percentage, 53% makes you money. Do not expect to make a fast buck and get out. It simply is a recipe for disaster. If you like sports betting, set money aside for it and stick with a smart money management and sports betting system.

Winning In the Rain

Posted by admin

Sooner or later, it happens to every bettor. You’re all ready to go to the track. You’ve handicapped the program and found a slew of good bets. You even have some extra money in your pocket and your spouse has gone out with a friend, so you won’t be accused of neglect. You grab your keys, head out to the car and get about halfway to the track when it starts to rain.

The forecast didn’t call for rain, but apparently the weather gods didn’t listen to the forecast, because it’s pouring as you park in the track parking lot and sit there thinking about whether you even want to go in now. After all, who knows what’s gonna happen with the track getting wetter by the minute?

Well, if you’d done our homework, you’d know. Rain has an effect on the dogs at every track, but every track is different, so you have to study your track’s track bias when it’s wet. My approach is to go online and get a program, even when I’m not going to bet or go to the track that day. That way, I can see which dogs run well when it’s wet and which dogs don’t. Like people, there are a few dogs who just hate getting wet. Not many, but some, and it’s important to know which ones they are.

No matter how good some dogs look, if they hate having mud kicked up in their faces, they’re not going to give it their best effort. Other dogs, however, who may just be so-so runners on a dry track, actually love running in the mud and – like little kids – splash cheerfully through even the biggest puddles all the way to the finish line.

Sometimes, and this is true of my favorite track, heavy dogs are favored when the track is wet. When it rains, I like to look for a heavy dog with some early speed who’s at decent odds. Then I bet it to win and place. You’d be surprised at how often people overlook this, although the horse players know about it from betting “mudders” at the horse track.

Also at my favorite track and maybe at yours, when the track goes beyond muddy to sloppy, things change. Heavy dogs stop coming in and smaller dogs, often older dogs and it seems to me that a lot of them are females, seem to skim right over the mud to win for fun.

So, keep an eye on the weather and its effects on the track and the dogs at your track. Look back at a dog’s previous races and look for races designated “M” for muddy or “S” for sloppy. See how they did and which box they did the best from on muddy or sloppy tracks. That way, even when it rains, you’ll have the edge to win in spite of the weather.

If you’re not winning at the track, you need to visit Eb’s Winning Greyhound Systems where you can find free tips and information to help you win at the dog track. From Florida to New Hampshire and all the tracks in between, Eb knows greyhounds. Find out what you need to know to win at Eb’s.
